There once was a man, a man of great faith and who had miraculous things happen throughout his ministry. John G. Lake had a ministry of healing, and one time when he was in Africa there was a great plague. Every one around him was dieing, and he tended the sick, and buried the dead. There was no medicine, and finally the medical ships came with help. The doctors on the ship told Lake that he should take some of their preventative measures so that he would not get sick. He told them that it was not necessary… “The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of Sin and Death,” he told them. He also showed them the reality of this. He took some of the frothy foam that came from the mouths of the dead victims of the plague and put it on a slide. They put it under a microscope, and saw that those germs were very much alive and active. Then they put some of those germs on Lake’s hand, and put it under the microscope. The germs died when they were on his hand. They had no right to exist in or on his body. He was going with a higher power and a higher law, the Law of Life in Christ Jesus, and that anointing power of God mixed with his faith, killed those germs.
How did Lake get such a high degree of faith? One thing that he did was to meditate on the Word of God, and confess it over his life daily. As he got up in the morning, he would get dressed up in a fine suit of clothes, and go to the mirror. He would look in the mirror and say “God lives in that man in that suit of clothes. And where that suit of clothes goes, God goes.”
We can do the same thing. We might feel silly at first, because in our natural mind, we might not have that concept that the creator of the universe lives and abides in us. We see ourselves with our faults, but we need to see ourselves as servants of the Most High God, God indwelled. When we get up in the morning, before we get out of bed, we need to invite God to share our day, and go with us. As we get up, and put on our clothes, we can clothe ourselves with His righteousness. For the Word of God says that we ARE the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Then when we go to the mirror and comb our hair, and brush our teeth, we can say just like John G. Lake, “God lives in that man (or woman) in that suit of clothes. And where that suit of clothes goes, God goes.”
We can meditate on that fact. We can look at our hands, and think about how our hands are God’s hands here on this earth. The anointing of God flows through these hands. The anointing of God flows through these veins. And every cell in my body is flooded with the miracle working life giving power of God. For the “Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of Sin and Death.” When we meditate on these Bible truths, it becomes faith inside of us. And when faith becomes so big inside of us, when we see a sick person, we will pray for them and they will be healed. It is not an option… The Bible says that believers shall lay hands on the sick and they WILL recover.
With John G. Lake, this became a reality in his life and ministry, and it is a documented fact that while he was in Spokane, Washington, and started his Healing Rooms, Spokane was voted the healthiest city in the USA by the government. Was John G. Lake a special person? Yes, but God is not a respecter of persons. If he did it through Lake, he can do it through us. What makes someone a “special person”? I have heard it said that God will jump over 1,000 people to get to one who has an ounce of faith. Just a little bit is all it takes, and we all have that little bit. But you can cause your faith to grow and develope inside of you by reading the Word of God. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word.
A lot of times when I am out ministering on the streets, I tell people (after they pray and receive the Lord) to not only read the scriptures on salvation, but to confess or say them out loud. Because as they read them aloud, they go out of their mouth, and into their ears and down into their spirit, and become faith inside of them. When faith is firmly entrenched, nothing can take it away from them. So as we read and confess the Word of God, faith rises up inside of us, and we can expect the Word of God to work. Because God is faithful to perform His Word. Then when sickness or disease or disaster comes, we can know beyond any shadow of a doubt that we are not alone. That the Spirit of God lives inside of us, and when the devil looks at us, he won’t just see us. And when we submit ourself to God and resist the devil he flees in terror.
